Introducing Westerly Chiropractor Dr. Chris Kerszko

Dr. Chris Kerszko and Family

I wouldn't have believed it but it happened to me...

I didn't choose chiropractic, chiropractic chose me.  When I was 20 years old I was practicing my free-throw shot in the driveway.  At one point the ball came bouncing back to me and I leaned over to pick it up.  I heard a 'POP' and I could not straighten up from the stooped over position.

I was scared and in a lot of pain.  My mom told me that she knew of a 'back' doctor in town.  She didn't have to say another word and we were in the car heading to my first chiropractic appointment.

To make a long story short, I was examined and at the Report of Findings I was told I had a Vertebral Subluxation in my back and needed a series of spinal adjustments.  After a few short weeks I started to feel great, arguably better than I did before the injury occurred.

I was unsure where my college education was going and asked my chiropractor what it took to become a chiropractor.  After he described the prerequisites and what chiropractic school would be like I decided that chiropractic found me for a reason and I was ready to commit.

Two years later I was in Chiropractic school and four years after that I was taking care of people as a Doctor of Chiropractic.

I graduated from Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic in September 2003.  What surprised me about chiropractic is that it is NOT about back pain.  I learned that the goal of Chiropractic care is to restore proper function to the spine so that the delicate nerves that exit each vertebra are not interfered with.

Health, I was taught, is the natural state of the body and the body will remain healthy as long as there is no interference.

Our philosophy is that every man, woman, and child needs to be checked for vertebral subluxations.  Our goal is to have 200 healthy families a year getting their spines checked on a regular basis.  The longer a subluxation is there, the more interference there is and the less healthy you are.  That is why we ask that families get a spinal checkup at least once a month.  This ensures that subluxations will only be present for a maximum of 30 days.  This allows for maximum potential to be healthy for the rest of your life.

My wife, Simone, just had a happy, healthy baby girl on December 20th 2005.  Emily is the joy and delight of our life.  We have checked her spine monthly for Subluxations.  In addition, after a fall, bump on the head, or change in normal attitude, we check Emily and always find nerve interference in the form of Subluxations.  Fortunately, she has not been sick one day in her life (10 months old at the time of writing this) and is happier and more full of life than almost any baby anyone has ever met.  My wife and I  have been married since July 9th 2002 and plan to have many children.

Dr. Chris enjoys reading, playing guitar and trumpet and taking the dogs to the park.  Dr. Simone currently has the full time job of taking care of Emily and running the office as the Office Manager while she awaits licensure.  She enjoys playing the piano, playing with Emily and reading.

I am lucky to have my wife as my chiropractor.  This allows us to stay in alignment and working in peak condition every day.  We both get adjusted between 2 and 4 times a month depending on the different stresses at different times of the year.  Simone has been getting adjusted since 1993 and Chris since 1995.  Neither of us would know what to do if not for regular chiropractic care.

We are very holistic.  We will never get a vaccination for the flu or any other reason.  After many years of research and study we have decided not to vaccinate our children and do not ever take over-the-counter or prescription medications.  We believe that they do not heal, just cover up the problem for a while.

Enough about me!  How can I help you achieve your health and wellness goals through natural chiropractic care?  Give us a call so we can help you take your first step towards better health!

Dr. Chris Asks some important questions of interest to Westerly residents - Chiropractor Westerly Dr. Chris Asks...

Why is a "slipped disc" unlikely?
Separating each spinal vertebra is a disc. Its fibrous outer ring holds in a jelly-like material. Because of the way a disc attaches to the spinal bones above and below it, it can't actually "slip." However, a disc can bulge, tear, herniate, thin and collapse. But it can't slip.
Can chiropractic cure a child's ear infections?
Chiropractic isn't a cure for anything. Nor is it a treatment for ear infections. However, many children who suffer with ear infections also suffer from spinal problems in their neck, compromising nerves to the ear, depressing the immune system and preventing proper drainage. Can chiropractic help? Find out!
